Jemma Dolan MLA calls on residents to respond to public consultation on broadband

Published: 18 December, 2018

Sinn Féin's Jemma Dolan MLA has encouraged residents in Fermanagh and South Tyrone with weak broadband speeds to respond to a public consultation launched by the Department of the Economy.

The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said:

"Many rural areas throughout Fermanagh and South Tyrone are disadvantaged in terms of access to high speed broadband.

"It's a reality that poor broadband has a real impact on the lives of people in our rural communities, who can't work or study from home, and can't access basic public services or shop online.

"Sinn Féin have been consistently calling for this inequality to be addressed and for future investment to prioritise rural areas.

"It's welcome that the Department of the Economy have now launched a public consultation on 'Project Stratum' in an attempt to deliver better broadband to people in areas with poor coverage.

"If your home can't reach download speeds of at least 30Mbps - I would encourage people to respond to this consultation by email:stratum@economy-ni.gov.uk or by phone 02890529352." ENDS
