Dolan encourages people to See, Say, Signpost

As a member of the All Party Group on Suicide Prevention, Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA Jemma Dolan has encouraged as many people as possible to "See, Say, Signpost."

Following completion of a free online twenty-minute Suicide Prevention Training Course, Ms Dolan said,

"One life lost to suicide is one too many. Unfortunately, it remains one of the leading causes of death in our society and we need not look much further than our own county, where suicide has left a number of families devastated over recent weeks.

"I have signed the petition calling for a 24/7 drop-in centre to be based in Enniskillen, as a safe place for those considering taking their own life. I commend those who have taken the initiative to do this and I fully support their endeavours.

"I have also contacted the Permanent Secretary to request a meeting to discuss provision of these services in more detail.

"The training I took part in, developed by the Zero Suicide Alliance, encourages us to See the signs, Say the words & Signpost to the appropriate help. This potentially life-saving course aims to help us all play a more effective role in suicide prevention.

"The statistics highlight that talking about suicide is still highly stigmatised. However, talking about it and understanding it better is necessary to help prevent further deaths. Therefore, I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in the free online twenty-minute Suicide Prevention Training Course. It could save a life." ENDS
