Post Office in Derrylin Vital - Lynch

Published: 28 November, 2017

Seán Lynch MLA says that a post office in Derrylin is a vital to the community and reinstatement of this service must be prioritised.

Mr Lynch said,

"It is vital that there is a post office in Derrylin to support the needs of local people and businesses alike.

"With the recent withdrawal of the post office facilities in the village, the nearest post offices for people in the Teemore and Derrylin areas to use are in Kinawley, Macken, and Lisnaskea.

"This is too far to travel, particularly for people without their own transport, to access postal and banking services.

"For people in receipt of pension or benefits, who depend on the post office, this is an added burden.

"Prior to, and since the withdrawal of services in Derrylin, I have been speaking to local business owners who have applied, and are going through the tendering process, to ensure that there is post office provision within the village again as soon as possible. However, the process can take some time.

"As the provision of post offices is not a devolved matter, my party colleague, Michelle Gildernew MP, has been in contact with Royal Mail to request that the reinstatement of a post office in Derrylin is prioritised.

"Myself, and my party colleagues in Sinn Féin are hopeful that this can be realised as soon as possible." - Ends/Críoch
