Feely to ask Bank of Ireland to reverse their decision to close at meeting with Regional Director
Published: 30 July, 2016
Sinn Fein Councillor for Erne North John Feely is to meet Regional Director for Bank of Ireland in the coming week to discuss their decision to close it's branch in Belleek.
Cllr Feely said:
"On the day the closures were announced I was in contact with the bank's head office in London to express my disappointment with their decision.
"This bank is a vital service to our community serving both local people and businesses.
"I asked Bank of Ireland to take account of Belleek's unique set of circumstances and reverse the decision it has made.
"Some of these included it's distance from other banks, the awful broadband and mobile coverage in the rural areas around west Fermanagh, and the dispersed rural population of the area that the Belleek branch serves.
"As a company that is continuing to make healthy profits I explained that Bank of Ireland should have a moral conscience towards it's loyal customers.
"I have secured a meeting with the Regional Director of Bank of Ireland in the coming week to discuss these and other issues at length. I will be asking that their decision be reversed and to discuss their plans going forward.
"Prior to the meeting I am speaking to as many stakeholders as possible so that I can relay their well founded fears to Bank of Ireland's management."
