On line carer service welcomed - McGahan
Published: 14 March, 2016
Sinn Féin MLA Bronwyn McGahan has welcomed the introduction of a digital service for carers to claim carers allowance.
Bronwyn McGahan said:
"There are thousands of people who are caring for relatives and friends who are either not getting their full entitlement or in some cases nothing at all.
"This new service will allow them to check online what they are entitled to and put in a claim or declare a change of circumstance.
"This scheme has been trialed in England and has had favourable responses from users as it is designed to only ask questions relevant to the individual case based upon previous answers.
"The roll-out of this new service began on 29th February and I would appeal to carers who have queries on their claims to use the system by logging on at www.nidirect.gov.uk/carers-allowance-how-to-claim
"I also welcome the fact that paper forms are still available for those especially the elderly who are not so computer literate."
