Lynch welcomes Minister O'Neill's flood assistance programme for non-domestic properties

Sinn Féin MLA Sean Lynch has welcomed a new emergency flooding assistance programme for non-domestic properties announced by Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Michelle O'Neill.

The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA said;

"The recent flooding brought huge problems for many in rural communities, particularly in Fermanagh.

"This announcement from my party colleague, Minister Michelle O'Neill, of the Emergency Financial Assistance Scheme for non-domestic properties is welcome news.

"Just as with the existing flood assistance scheme for domestic properties introduced by my party colleague; this scheme will be administered through Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

"This will be of great benefit to small businesses, community groups and farms who experienced flooding recently where the losses incurred were un-insurable and where less than 25 people are employed.

"The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development have reported that 40 farm businesses meet the eligibility criteria for this funding, the majority of them in Fermanagh.

"If farmland was underwater for at least 14 days and the farm incurred additional cost due to reduced productivity or unplanned sward restoration / reseeding work, they will be eligible.

"If businesses were unable to operate due to constrained access for at least 14 days and they can demonstrate that they have paid out money in clean-up costs, they will also be eligible for this one-off payment of £1,000 to help them recover.

"I want to commend the minister for this latest announcement in support of flood-hit communities.

"This is further evidence of Sinn Féin's commitment to improve the lives of those living in rural communities and those involved in agriculture.

"I would encourage all those affected by the recent sustained flooding to contact Fermanagh and Omagh District Council on 0300 303 1777." Ends/Críoch
