Cllr Coyle welcomes introduction of 'whole time' firefighters
Published: 10 July, 2015
Sinn Féin Councillor Debbie Coyle has welcomed the news that Enniskillen Fire and Rescue Service Station will be staffed 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday by a whole time crew.
Speaking from Enniskillen, Councillor Coyle said,
"I truly welcome the news that the Fire station in Enniskillen will have a whole time staff presence - the service provided by NI Fire and Rescue service will mean quicker turn out times during the hours that they are on call.
"Obviously outside of these set hours, the committed team of local retained firefighters will still be on call 24/7.
"It is disappointing that the local retained staff were not able to apply for the permanent posts, however as they have so much local knowledge it is important for them to continue to deliver the services to the community that they do so well.
"Hopefully the local retained firefighters will continue to be allowed to provide all the local home fire safety checks, the school visits, the demonstrations and all the other valuable interactions they have had with the community down the years.
"Let's not forget that the local team are the ones who will be providing fire cover at the weekends and during the night when they may be needed most.
Ms Coyle adds,
"Knowledge of the local area is vital in the delivery of fast and effective fire safety and the local team has proven this throughout the years.
"Having the whole time firefighters in the fire station will mean quicker response times to emergencies which is great news for Enniskillen and the surrounding areas." ENDS
