Flanagan welcomes Phase 3 Scheme for Danny's Mill Road
Published: 10 July, 2015
Sinn Féin MLA Phil Flanagan has welcomed news from NI Water that Phase 3 of the scheme of work to eradicate waste water odour problems around Danny's Mill Road is to commence this week.
The Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA said:
"For over two years, residents had been bringing reports of unacceptable odour problems in this area to me and I worked closely with them to ensure that NI Water were aware of the extent of the problem and the impact it was having on the quality of their lives.
"In 2013 interim measures were put in place to deal with the ongoing odour problems. However Phase 3 of the scheme to ensure a permanent resolution to the problem has been announced and I welcome it.
"Phase 3 involves replacement and extension of the Rossory Wastewater Pumping Station's existing pumped sewer in order to improve its hydraulic performance.
"This will also provide the benefit of diverting odorous sewage flows away from the problematic trunk sewer to a new discharge location.
Mr Flanagan continued,
"A contractor, Geda Ovivo Ltd, has been appointed to construct Phase 3 with work scheduled to start on 6th of July 2015 for completion in the autumn. I look forward to the completion of this scheme, as do the people living in the area.
"I will continue to exert pressure on the Department of Regional Development to ensure that adequate resources are set aside to facilitate the completion of this work as soon as possible." ENDS
