Sinn Féin's Michelle Gildernew has spoken of her pride of representing the people of Fermanagh South Tyrone for the past 14 years and vows that she will continue to work for the people.

Speaking this morning, Ms Gildernew said

"I am disappointed yes, but we increased our vote by a massive 1,774 votes, of which I am incredibly proud of. It was a successful election for Sinn Féin across the North, increasing our vote by by 4000, up to 176,232.

"The last 14 years have been hectic, but I loved every minute of it & it was a pleasure to represent the people of the constituency. I worked for everyone, no matter what their creed, colour or sexual orientation.

Ms Gildernew says,

"I had a thoroughly enjoyable campaign, with positive feedback and great people. I had a strong team of activists behind me, helping me to run the length of the constituency, knocking doors, engaging with the electorate and ensuring we got our message out.

"The result was always going to be close - I was defending a 4 vote majority and I was up against a combined unionist, Tory candidate.

"The key issue ahead is achieving a workable budget for public services, powers to grow the economy and protect those on welfare and myself and Sinn Féin will continue to do this tirelessly." ENDS
