Michelle Gildernew has this morning expressed her deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Shane Mulholland who was killed in a car accident yesterday evening.

"I was deeply saddened by the news of the death of Shane Mulholland following a road traffic accident yesterday.

"Shane was key in the development of GAA across the North but in particular in his native Antrim, Cavan and Fermanagh. Not only has his family lost a son, his wife lost a husband, his young baby lost a father, but the GAA have lost a vital asset.

"Whilst the rest of the county are making their way to the Division 3 final in Dublin, a game I'm sure the Mulholland family were due to attend, Shane's family are left crippled with this devastating loss. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to them at this tough time and my thoughts and prayers are with them.

"The number of deaths on Fermanagh roads is amongst the highest in the North so far this year and so many families have been left shattered with grief. For this reason I urge each and every road user to take care when out and about - I'm not sure how much more grief Fermanagh can take." ENDS
