O'Reilly encourages attendance at Voter Registration Clinics

Published: 11 March, 2015

Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas O'Reilly is encouraging all sections of the community to avail of the upcoming registration clinics being held by the Electoral Office.

The Erne East councillor says,

"The Electoral Office has confirmed that they are to host two registration clinics in Fermanagh. One on 19th March in the Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen and one on the 26th March in Castle Park Centre, Lisnaskea both from 10am to 1pm.

"In the last Westminster election we witnessed how every single vote counts, with our candidate and sitting MP, Michelle Gildernew getting elected by just 4 single votes. Registering to vote is one responsibility that every citizen must undertake and I advise everyone to avail of these clinics.

"Getting on the register is a straightforward process but please make sure to bring your National Insurance number along to the clinic so your application can be processed.

Councillor O'Reilly continues,

"At these clinics you will also be provided with a free photographic Electoral ID card. On 7th May, polling day, you will not be able to vote without valid photographic ID so this is a perfect opportunity to ensure you have that ID and you are eligible to vote.

"This Electoral ID card is widely accepted as proof of identity for domestic travel, opening a bank account and gaining entry into nightclubs and bars. Therefore, using this ID card lowers the risk of people losing other forms of photographic ID such as drivers' licences or passports, which are costly to replace.

"I extend my thanks to Martin Fox and his staff in the Electoral Office for bringing this essential provision to Fermanagh, ensuring the people of the county are eligible to have their say.

"I cannot reiterate enough the importance of registering to vote and exercising your democratic right so I urge everyone who isn't already registered to do so at these clinics and on May 7th stand up and fight for your jobs, your families, and your future. ENDS
