Take advantage of DSD schemes - Lynch

Published: 13 October, 2014

Sinn Féin Cllr for Erne East, Ruth Lynch is encouraging eligible homeowners to make their homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient this winter by applying for the Boiler Replacement Allowance and the Warm Homes Scheme.

Both schemes are financed by the Department for Social Development and designed to reduce the high percentage of fuel poverty across the 6 Counties.

Cllr. Lynch says,

"The Boiler Replacement scheme is aimed at homeowners who have an oil heating boiler which is over 15 years old. The amount of money that you will get depends on your income and the type of boiler you want to install.

"Any homeowner can apply where the annual household income is less than £40,000. The maximum allowance is £1,000 for those with annual income less than £20k falling to a maximum of £500 for those with incomes exceeding £20k. The Boiler Replacement scheme has been very successful to date. Last year 252 energy efficient boilers were installed in Co Fermanagh resulting in significantly reduced fuel costs for applicants. The Housing Executive manages applications for the scheme and can be contacted on 03448920900."

The Warm Homes Scheme is available to owner occupiers and private tenants who are on the qualifying benefits. Energy saving measures includes wall cavity, loft and hot water tank insulation. To check if you are entitled, call Warm Homes on 08009880559.

As both schemes are due to end on 31 March 2015, it is important that you apply as soon as possible to check if you are eligible. All works must be completed by the end of end of March next year. If in doubt, find out!
