Agricultural Anthony welcomes Rural Support project

Published: 25 September, 2014

Sinn Féin Erne West Councillor, Anthony Feely has empathised with the 40% of farmers who called the Rural Support helpline concerning debt & has welcomed the new project, "Tackling Rural Stress: Promoting Positive Mental Health."

A farmer himself, Cllr.Feely says,

"I understand where the farmers are coming from, I know what it is like to have to tighten the household budget, spend less on clothing, food and luxury items. The effort of trying to provide for the family and keep the farm business going can be stressful."

If you are struggling under the crippling weight of financial stress, Rural Support wishes you not to suffer in silence but to seek help.

Rural Support can provide up to three sessions of free, confidential, face to face support from a Finance Mentor to analyse your current financial/farm business position and help identify a way forward.

"Mental Health is not something farmers consider. However with figures revealing that one in four people will experience some kind of mental health difficulty in their lifetime & figures from Rural Support telling that 87% of those surveyed from the farming community were experiencing some stress - it is time everybody considered mental health."

"That's why I am welcoming the Tackling Rural Stress: Promoting Positive Mental Health project & I urge those who are feeling stressed about their farming finances to speak up & make use of this service."

Cllr. Feely went on to express gratitude to Rural Support for introducing this initiative & remind farmers of the helpline number - 0845 606 7 607.
