Relief at Frack Free Decision - Gildernew

Published: 30 September, 2014

Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew, speaking after the decision was announced said,

"Tamboran was granted a petroleum licence in 2011 and had three years to inform the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) on its decision to drill or drop their plans. This evening Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said the licence had been terminated as the deadline passed earlier today.

"I am delighted that the licence to Tamboran to carry out fracking has been terminated. Fracking is an exercise that had the potential to destroy this county, its agriculture, its tourism and its people's health.

"Fracking was never in the interest of the people of Fermanagh or indeed the island of Ireland and the local community will be delighted that the licence has expired.

"Sinn Féin has been at the fore of opposing the introduction of fracking right across Ireland and I have visited the protest site several times in order to show my support.

"I sincerely hope that the issue of fracking in Fermanagh is now over but, Sinn Féin will continue to fundamentally oppose it right across the island."
